Mission
Bring together people who live with—or have lived through—mental health challenges, with the mission of defending and promoting their individual and collective rights.

Founded by individuals with lived experience of mental health issues, Action Autonomie was built on the conviction that uniting voices is essential to making those rights heard and respected.

Guided by the principle of the primacy of the individual, Action Autonomie’s approach is rooted in support, not authority. The organization encourages self-determination and advocates from a place of respect, always upholding each person’s autonomy and expressed will.

Objectives:

  • Bringing together people who live with or have experienced mental health issues;
  • Defending and promoting their individual and collective rights;
  • Providing information and training to support the exercise of those rights;

  • Remaining vigilant against abuse and rights violations;

  • Assisting individuals in filing complaints or asserting their legal rights;
  • Acting as a spokesperson and advocate—representing individuals who have used mental health services, whether voluntarily or involuntarily;
  • Raising public awareness of the realities faced by people with mental health challenges.

As an organization committed to defending rights, Action Autonomie intervenes in the following cases, among others:

  • Involuntary hospitalization;
  • Court-ordered treatment;
  • Health and social services;
  • Guardianship and legal mandates;
  • Justice system navigation;
  • Accommodation and housing rights;
  • Social assistance;
  • Work and employment rights;
  • Any form of abuse or exploitation.
